The Garden

As I was growing up, my dad always had a garden. Sometimes I would even go outside and help him work in it. However mostly I just enjoyed eating the "vegetables" of his labors! When I had science experiments that my dad helped me with, some of them even revolved around plants and gardens such as the hydroponic project and the tropism project. If you don't know what those are, this is something new to look up.

Well, his love of gardening was passed onto me. This year I was able to have my first real garden. No longer am I growing things just in pots. No...on one of Dad's visits this spring he built me my first garden box. I was hoping this would be a project the kids and I could work on together. However on the day that the planting of the seeds occurred the swing set was able to hold their attention more than the seeds. Oh, well.

What I have enjoyed is watching my daughter develop a love of tomatoes because of the baby tomatoes we grew together. She also loves to help me water the garden. Bradley got excited about trying to grow broccoli and is hoping next year we can have cauliflower. Despite some of our seed not germinating at all (no carrots this year), a few things doing marginal, and being overrun with baby tomatoes, all in all it has been a fun first summer of having a home garden!!
